What Makes a Good Quality Swimsuit?

It doesn't matter whether your new swimsuit costed $20 or $200 if it's not going to stand the quality garment test. What's the point of spending all that money if it's not going to last?

Instead of judging bathing suits by their brand or designer name, consider the garment by how its made.

First off, clothes made in Canada, United States of America or Europe is an indication of a quality garment. These countries have higher manufacturers standards for their products. Although they are harder to find, it is worth checking a swimsuit's labels and tags.

Next, you want to analyze the swimsuit's fabric. The very foundation of a bathing suit needs to feel comfortable on your skin yet gives enough support and stretch for swimming. Lycra is an amazing fabric that provides plenty of stretch and flexibility, and most importantly it is durable and resists color fading. Tip: Look for specially blended Lycra that is chlorine resistant.

Shaping swimwear can make your gut disappear! Specially constructed swimsuits (usually a one piece swimsuit or tankini) can offer tummy control with its thicker and stronger materials blended around the stomach area.

Lining is very important in offering comfort and extra protection in areas of a bathingsuit. With proper construction, the lining should be made from a light and soft material like polyester or rayon.

Poorly sewn seams are a dead giveaway of a bad quality swimsuit. Seams should always lay evenly flat and never pull at the fabric.

And lastly, always check the balance and symmetry of the bathing suit. The garment should look even and mirrored from the center. A easy way to check is by flipping it inside out and checking that everything is the proportionate on both sides.

So before you buy a new swimsuit, always check for these overlooked factors. Because the one thing that's more important than price is quality.
