Learn step by step how to create your very own Swimsuit Coverup

Here are the steps of creating a swimsuit coverup. Take notes if necessary. It will save you money. This is a great activity for you and your kids to try at home!

Step One

Drop by your local fabric store and purchase about one and a half meters of the fabric of your choice. This should be enough for a swimsuit coverup, but check by wrapping the fabric around your waist. Every body is different.

This is a very inexpensive alternative since it’s like buying bulk. Expect to pay anything from $2 to $15 depending on the fabric. Watch for special sales and discounts on ends of fabric that is enough for this crafty idea!

Choose colors that compliment your swimsuit. For example, if your swimsuit is black, then choose pastel colors like white, light blue or even black. Sheer textures look great but make sure the fabric you pick is heavy and flexible. You want to be able to tie the sarong around your hips and keep it there.

Step Two

Once you have your fabric, fold it in half to form a triangle (or into any triangular shape of your choice) and wrap it around your waist to see if it sits comfortably. If you like the texture of a fabric doubled up, you can keep it that way, or you can cut the triangle into half. Remember with scissors you may alter and adjust to your desired length and width.

Step Three

You can add fringes at the ends of the fabric. Be careful! If your fabric is like the texture of silk, fringes will not work! If you're not sure about adding fringes or applying rhinestones to a particular fabric, ask the fabric store's employees. They are experts on sewing and fabric.

By snipping slightly into the bottom at a 45' angle with about half an inch inbetween each snip. Using your fingers, gently pull the fabric downwards to fray the fabric. It adds an urban rustic look to your swimsuit coverup!

Step Four

If you're feeling really confident that you can step up to the next level, try adding beautiful rhinestone designs to the coverup. Simply all you need is a glue gun and a pack of rhinestones you can both purchase from a craft store. I believe these are quite cheap and affordable now, so it will be well worth it to try!

First, lay the triangular fabric down on the ground flat, right side up. Make sure it there are no creases or bumps. Depending on which rhinestones you like, there are star or heart shaped ones, in small, medium and large sizes. I'd recommend staying with a uniform rhinestone type, it's way too distracting with all sorts of colors and shapes all over a swimsuit coverup.

Keep it simple! Less is more!

Arrange the rhinestones on the fabric in the design you prefer, I suggest instead of random gluing of rhinestones, play connect the dots to create long wavy swirls, or even your sweetheart's name! Avoid putting too many rhinestones on your coverup again, because it will become heavy and overly distracting to the eye.
